Academic software are licensed and distributed by Software Licensing. If there is general and continuing interest in a software product not yet offered on campus, we will research the request to see if we can negotiate an agreement that will benefit the university.

Some software at Cornell is acquired through software licenses that are managed by the university. Some of these software licenses enable all faculty, staff, or students to use the software at no cost. Others limit who is eligible to use the software or have a fee. Each licensed product has its own eligibility criteria, and not all products are licensed at all locations.

CU Software's core service is software acquisition and license management. We help the Cornell community save on software costs by using economies of scale and promoting software license opportunities, on average saving the university an estimated $2.1 million a year. We handle all the details involved in providing the lowest prices for the software the Cornell community uses. We encourage all departments to consider assigning their software licensing to us so the university can maximize its purchasing power.

Note: The license assigned to your account allows you to download Microsoft Office, install it on your machine, and activate it using your [email protected] account. It does not give access to Office.com online or cloud services like One Note and One Drive.

All Microsoft licenses for the software downloaded from the CUIT site are authorized every 90 days by the CUIT KMS server. For authorization, the devices must either be physically on campus or you must be logged in to the CUIT VPN.

There are certain policies in place for all licenses procured through CUIT and others that are specific to particular products. The general policies are categorized as follows:

CUIT provides these licenses as a service to the Columbia community. The licensees are responsible for installation, maintaining hardware and making sure the appropriate operating system is installed.

Berkeley Lab IT provides access to the most commonly used software at the Lab for purchase and download at software.lbl.gov. To access you will need LDAP Credentials a Lab Project/Activity; DOE serial number of computer or serial # used to identify the machine as well as an identified Approver. Each software is purchased individually.

Some open-source licenses may not be completely free and may be restricted from use in commercial settings. Always review the license terms before installing an app that is not downloaded from software.lbl.gov.

Each user's license is only valid for a fixed period of time, after which it must be renewed in order to continue using the product. These licenses typically include all upgrades during the license term. Typically all the subscriptions of a specific license expire on the same date and new users may not get a full term of use before being charged for renewal. Here is a listing of current subscription license offerings available software.lbl.gov.

Indefinite use of a specific version of a given software product. Upgrades are available if maintenance is purchased with the software. Outside of termination, these licenses are available after a single payment. Examples of perpetual licenses on the download site are listed below:

There are circumstances where LBNL licensed software is purchased for installation on a non-LBNL owned machine. In such cases, line management should approve the installation and the license must be uninstalled and returned when the relationship to LBNL or the business need end.

Many software packages provided by the College of Engineering are licensed as floating node licenses. If a software package has 25 or 100 licenses, this means that while you can install the software on as many computers as you want, it can only run on 25 or 100 systems simultaneously. We try buy enough floating licenses to cover the expected usage. If you have trouble obtaining a license for one of these applications, please contact admin@eng.auburn.edu.

When the software application starts, it contacts the appropriate Engineering license server to check out a license. This means that the computer you are using must be online when you use the software so that it can contact the license server to check the license out and in. There is a further restriction that you must be on the College of Engineering network. The Engineering License Servers are not available outside of the Engineering network.

There is a technique that allows you to create a secure tunnel to the College of Engineering License Servers so that you can check licenses out and in. You must install SecureCRT on your PC. Before starting your application, you start SecureCRT and log in to the College of Engineering network (you must have an Engineering username/password - which all students, faculty and staff will have). The SecureCRT session must also tunnel certain ports from your PC to the Engineering License Servers.

Example: To tunnel to the Matlab license server on a Windows PC: Initial, one-time setup (We now have Matlab ( ) available through Mathworks so this is not needed, but still works as an example.)

If you can't download the software you want from the Software Centre, use the ESD to download free and paid-for (with University account code) software. If you're using Wi-Fi or you're not on campus, you need to be connected to the GlobalProtect VPN. You may also need to check your DNS settings on your home Wi-Fi if you're having issues.

If you have an active NetID, you can download the Microsoft Office suite of applications (now called Office 365 ProPlus) which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. free of charge from the Office 365 portal (Mac and PC instructions are below). The latest versions of Office software can be installed on multiple Windows, Mac, and mobile devices and you can save files in your Office 365's OneDrive to continue working on your files across all devices.

VMware is a virtualization and cloud computing software provider. Under certain circumstances, faculty and students may obtain this software free of charge under the VMware Academic Program. Staff using VMware products to support the infrastructure of the University must purchase licenses.

8. [File Sharing] I shall not use the IT infrastructure to engage in any form of illegal file sharing (examples: copyrighted material, obscene material). In particular, I have noted the following:Electronic resources such as e-journals, e-books, databases, etc. made available by the Central Library, IIT (BHU) are for academic use. These resources can be searched, browsed, and material may be downloaded and printed as single copies of articles as is done in the case of printed library material. Use of robots, spiders or intelligent agents to access, search and/or systematically download from the e-resources is also prohibited. Any violation of this policy will result in penal action as per the rules and regulations of the Institute.

Note: After you have downloaded Office 365, Microsoft may require you to activate the software. Indicate that you already have an account and activate it using the same login details again; username [at] lu [dot] se.

Purdue University Software Downloads (Purdue Boilerkey login required)Purdue University licenses certain software products for installation by Purdue University affiliated persons (students, faculty, and staff) on Purdue owned and/or personally owned computers. This page lists software that can be downloaded and installed by Purdue students, faculty, and staff with a valid Purdue login and password.NOTE: The visibility of titles varies based on eligibility. Titles include antivirus, SecureCRT, SecureFX, ArcGIS, ERDAS, NVIVO, SAS

Note: eligibility for some products may be restricted based on your affiliation with the university (e.g. student, staff, or faculty). In most cases license agreements are for UBC-owned assets unless otherwise stated.

By purchasing a software license, you are only purchasing the right to use the software. You do not own the software and cannot redistribute it to others. Some other important policies surrounding our Software Licensing Service include:

Our licensed software support includes the deployment, installation, and configuration of the following licensed software products. This is just a sampling of the software readily available on the clusters.

Alternatively, all students and faculty staff can avail of a 1-year license for ArcGIS Desktop. This enables you to install ArcGIS onto a Windows computer in a standalone environment, not connected to the License Server. The licence expires 1 year after activation, or when the existing ESRI licence expires (July 2023).

LabVIEW and Multisim are available for registered Trinity students and staff to install. Please read and accept the licence agreement, after which you will be given access to the download link and current licence code.

The site licence is funded by departments across College contributing to the cost based on usage. There is no initial charge for downloading and using MATLAB software under the College site licence for the current academic year. However, you should be aware that:

Staff and currently enrolled students can avail of the SPSS site license for educational use but not for research funded by a business or organisation which would result in commercial gain. SPSS can be installed on any College-owned computer and also on a home computer. 2ff7e9595c
